What constitutes the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area?

What are the demographics of the current membership?

The membership is made up of a broad cross-section of JCSU alumni and friends of the University living in the DC Metropolitan Area.  Members are committed to promote and support the programs of the University through cooperation, fund raising, mentoring and community-based initiatives.  Most are Smith graduates and enjoy professional employment in the area, ranging from teachers, engineers, preachers, doctors, computer specialists, business entrepreneurs, etc.  Graduates span the classes of 1940's to 2000's.  New alumni are encouraged to join our Chapter and are always welcome!  This Chapter has existed since 1930.

Do you meet regularly and if so, when and where?

Regular chapter meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of every other month (or other designated date) from September to June inclusive.  Most meetings are held at the Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5109 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE, Washington, DC from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

How much are the Annual Dues?

Annual dues are $60.00 ($35.00 local and $25.00 national) payable to the JCSU Alumni Chapter and are due for the current fiscal year, which begins September 1 and ends August 31.  The $25.00 national dues collected are forwarded on your behalf to the National Alumni Association (NAA) of Johnson C. Smith University.

Why should I join the DC Alumni Chapter?

  • A unified body of alumni & friends can support the University more effectively;
  • Dues help support the general operations of the University & local chapter;
  • A unified body with resources may lead by example in fund-raising efforts;
  • Local alumni can network for personal, professional and social advantage.

Your local alumni encourages you to join our chapter and if you're interested; volunteer with UNCF, Young Alumni or the Washington InterAlumni Council (WIAC); participate in local college days/fairs; be a mentor for area students; and contribute your energy, ideas and resources to "Our Alma Mater"!  If nothing else, come out to network, refresh old friendships and start new ones!
